Happy Mother’s Day!

Every day I am thankful for all the talented kids that I get to work with. Each one of them has an incredible mom who drives them to rehearsals, practices with them and loves them unconditionally. Music with Mandy wouldn’t not be possible without these women.

For the past five weeks, the Music with Mandy choir has had rehearsals on Sundays to prepare for the upcoming Music with Mandy album. This week it fell on Mother’s Day so the kids and I decided to dedicate a song to our moms.

My mom is my rock. She is one of my best friends and is always there for me. She makes all of my costumes, helps me find gigs and is always sending me messages of love and support. She leads by example, she is a hard worker who is loyal and strong. Her love is truly unconditional and I am thankful that she is my mom and I am her daughter. I love you, Mom!

February 19, 2018

Family Day is this Monday, February 19 and my mom and dad are coming to visit! It’s a good thing too, because I have a lot going on this weekend and I need their help. We have two Music with Mandy Shows happening at 11 AM and 2 PM. I will also be doing a quick opening set for Mr Rayz at the Eau Claire Market at 1 PM. It will be jam packed!!

I love singing songs and playing games at all of my shows but my favourite part of MWM is when I get to collaborate with talented musicians. This weekend I will get to work with musicians as young as 5 as well as established professionals. These shows will the be debut of the MWM children’s choir. It is made up of some veteran MWM performers as well as some newcomers. They are small but mighty and I look forward to sharing the stage with Melissa, Georgia, Elena, Miles and Sophia!

I am incredibly grateful for all the incredible young musicians I have met through Chinook School of Music. At the Studio Space I will be joined on stage by four incredibly talented soloists; Free, Adrianna, Riley and Sephira!

My special guest for the 11 AM show is Mr. Rayz. We met on Instagram shortly after I launched MWM on August 11, 2017. I was promoting some shows and he sent me a message just to say hi and congratulations. So when I was looking for someone to open these shows, he was my first thought! We met in person a few weeks ago and jammed late into the night. I can’t wait to share the stage with him. His positive outlook and contagious energy is truly inspiring. Check out his website and be sure to listen to his album which is available here!

At 2 PM I will be joined by my friend and colleague Anna Mendham. She is an opera singer with an enthusiasm for children’s music which has led to original recitals for organizations such as OrchKids in Baltimore. Her favourite roles to date have been a hopeless romantic called Ann Truelove, A Fairy Queen and Cinderella. I met her almost two years ago when she began teaching  Music Kids at CSM with me. I have never been in an opera and only dabbled in classical singing as a teen but I look forward to seeing what happens when we combine our styles on Monday!

As always I will be joined by Ian Yule on drums and Matt Morris on keys. As a special treat we will be featuring Stefano Valdo on the double bass. These guys help bring my music to life and make MWM a special treat for me, kids and their families.

I hope to see you there!

Happy Holidays!

With 2017 coming to and end, I find myself incredibly grateful. No other year has left me so exhausted (I am sitting on the couch in my pyjamas as I write this) but I am proud of my accomplishments. I have performed as a pianist, learned how to play the ukulele, started school again and created Music with Mandy. My passion for performing has been reignited and I can’t wait to share my music with even more people in 2018.

2018 is going to be full of new challenges that I look forward to facing. I cannot wait to record my debut album On the Sunny Side of the Street in 2018. Thank you to everyone who contributed to my Indiegogo Campaign, gave me a cash donation or came to see my concert on December 23. We raised $5992 to go towards the album! This crowd funding campaign surprised me, I was filled with gratitude every time I received a contribution and often found myself overwhelmed with tears of happiness. It is my goal to make everyone who contributed to this project proud. I look forward to working with Paul Zacharias, Kodi Hutchinson, Ian Yule and Matt Morris in Rosebud.

None of this could have happened without the help of some very important individuals in my life:

Thank you to Matt Morris for always supporting my crazy dreams.

Thank you to Natalie Inga for being my sounding board and friend.

Thank you mom for designing my costumes.

Thank you dad for being a great sound guy and advisor.

Thank you Tom for being a constant support even though you are far away.

Thank you to Carrie and Robert at Chinook School of Music for your support, use of the studio and plethora of incredibly talented student to feature in my show.

Thank you Gabriella Gut for taking incredible photos of me!

Thank you  Jess Knights for reminding me to make time to be creative.

Thank you  Kate Schutz for suggesting that I record an album (even if I ignored the suggestion for 3 years).

Thank you to all my incredible friends who still like me even though the only thing I have spoken about for the last six months is MWM.

All the best to you and yours in 2018!

Thank you!!

EDIT: If you are interested in contributing to the album but missed the Indiegogo, please contact me directly at mandy@musicwithmandy.com

110 Days of MWM

On the Sunny Side of the Street-3

It has been 110 days since MWM began!!! Here’s what we’ve done so far:

-One Single: A Tisket A Tasket

-Two interviews: Elena and Eve, Maxine

-Three videos: How Far I’ll Go, It Don’t Mean a Thing, Wouldn’t it be Loverly

-Three collaborations with other artists: Natalie Inga, Heather Blush, Evan Rothery

-Six Shows

-Nineteen Children Featured in concert

-Hundreds of audience members have enjoyed our show!

Every show has had incredible moments as well as incredibly challenging moments. The long hours of rehearsals preparing myself and the kids for the show have been draining at times but it is worth it when I see them after glowing with pride. The best moments are when I hear parents or grandparents singing along with music from their childhood while their child dances along beside them. Music with Mandy is the most rewarding performance experience I have ever had.

This journey started in late June, 2017 when I decided that I needed to shake things up and tackle a new challenge. Working with kids was the most fulfilling part of my life and I had really begun to miss performing. So, I decided to combine these passions then I mixed in some jazz and Music with Mandy was born!

The first month of working on the project was incredibly exciting and relatively easy. Everything seemed to fall into place and I was constantly buzzing with energy and I needed to find a way to focus it so I could actually get some work done. So I went out to Manitoba to see my mom. I spent a week writing, arranging and visiting family. It was a chance to recharge my batteries after a hard year of school and work. Plus, the drive helped me come up with many of the ideas that are now integral parts of my show.

I arrived back home to a schedule busy with rehearsals, photoshoots and setting the foundation of MWM before heading to Whitehorse to see the rest of my family. While I was gone I continued to work remotely; creating this website, doing up charts and practicing as much as I could. On August 9, I arrived back at home and things began to happen very quickly. August 10 had me in rehearsals, August 11 (my birthday) I launched the website and began promoting MWM, August 12 we recorded our first single A Tisket A Tasket and August 23 was our first show.

I am truly overwhelmed with the love and support that I have received in the past four months. It has been the wildest ride of my life and this is just the beginning. In 2018, I am going to record an album!! So I have started a crowd funding campaign through Indiegogo to make my dream a reality. Please consider contributing today. With a minimum donation of $15 you will receive an early download of the album!

I am so excited to share my music with you and your family!

Love, Mandy xo

Maxine

IMG_0125

Maxine is a passionate seven year old who is in voice, piano and now violin lessons! She is also very active in her school choir and is a great swimmer. Her enthusiasm and positive energy is contagious. For the past year I would come to her house every Friday and she was always my last student of the week. No matter how hard or long the week was, I always left her house feeling joyful and energetic. I can’t help but smile when I am around her.

I am so excited that she is the first person to sit in my yellow chairs with me. Last Friday she came over to record a song with me. It is now up on my YouTube channel, please head on over there to give it a listen.

To Maxine,

Thank you for sharing music with me and I look forward to seeing you grow!

Mandy xo
